Militants destroy Nato trucks
ISLAMABAD (October 10, 2009): Suspected Islamist militants torched an oil tanker and six lorries carrying US and Nato supplies in Pakistan's restive north-west early on Friday, police said. The pre-dawn assault took place at a petrol station and a truckers' inn on the outskirts of Peshawar city, a key transit point for supplies meant for the Western forces battling the Taliban insurgency in neighbouring Afghanistan.




13 Pakistani illegal migrants detained in Hong Kong
HONG KONG (October 10, 2009): Thirteen Pakistani men have been detained after being smuggled into Hong Kong from China on board a rickety wooden sampan skippered by a 16-year-old, marine police said on Friday. The illegal migrants were found in the open-topped sampan Friday morning off Hong Kong, just a day after another group of eight Africans and Pakistanis was found in another sampan in Hong Kong waters.




Justice Agha Rafiq retires as judge SHC: notification issued
ISLAMABAD (October 10, 2009): In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 195 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan read with President's Order No 3 of 1997, the President is pleased to retire Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan as judge of High Court Sindh with immediate effect.




Low intensity quake felt in Sindh
ISLAMABAD (October 10, 2009): A low magnitude earthquake, with intensity of 4 at Richter scale, has jolted areas located at Pakistan-India border, a private TV channel reported. Mirpur Khas, Mitthi, Islamkot and adjoining areas in Sindh province also felt minor jolts. No loss of life or property was reported in the quake. People came out of their homes in fear.




Gilani approves cadet college for Kalat
ISLAMABAD (October 10, 2009): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has approved setting up of a cadet college in Kalat, two flyovers in Quetta at Saryab Phatak and Koila Phatak and other infrastructure work including underpasses in the provincial capital.



KSE index gains 27.76 points
KARACHI (October 10, 2009): The Karachi share market opened on a positive note on Friday and the KSE-100 index hit 9,925.30 points intra-day high on the back of strong interest of both local and foreign investors after approval of the Stock Exchanges Demutualisation Bill in the National Assembly.



BRIndex30 up by 34.06 points
KARACHI (October 10, 2009): On Friday, BRIndex30 opened in the positive zone at 8,537.56 with an upward jump gap of 129.47 points. It closed at 8,442.15 with a net positive change of 34.06 points and percentage change of 0.41. It showed intra-day high of 8,577.62 and intra-day low of 8,407.47. The volume of BRIndex30 was 154,938,523, which was 64.65 percent of KSE All Share and 88.72 percent of KSE-100.

Pakistan wants greater access to EU and US markets: Qureshi
WASHINGTON (October 09, 2009): As President Barack Obama discusses the US strategy toward Pakistan with his top advisers on Wednesday, foreign minister appealed for market access, military technology - and above all, trust. Shah Mehmood Qureshi dismissed concerns that expanded US aid to Pakistan had too many strings attached, but said the country's wobbling economy needed more, in particular access for its goods to Western markets.




Government fights back against criticism
ISLAMABAD (October 09, 2009): The Federal Government fought back against army criticism of a proposed multibillion dollar US aid package Thursday, arguing that the military had no reservations about taking such assistance when it ruled the country two years ago.
